Parking Garage Retrofit | ArizonaW1P502PG
Product & Lamp:
70% Energy Savings
50% Reduced Maintenance Costs
The State of Arizona’s Property Management Company, Opus West wanted to solve a maintenance and lighting problem for some of their parking garages, and called Phoenix lighting distributor Hart Lighting for assistance. Mike Donahue, Hart’s President contacted Magnaray’s local sales agent, Beyond the Horizon for a solution.
Magnaray recommended using their 106 watt parking garage unit, that comprises two 50 watt, twin T5 lamp housings with one remote ballast (see channel between housing in photos) to replace 2-175 watt metal halide units in each 6 car parking bay. This system provides superior lighting, with less glare, no color shift, and “instant-on” capability, which can be a safety factor in power interruptions/failures. This also can allow for motion sensing to achieve greater savings from better control-ability. The improved light quality makes users “feel” more safe and secure, says Phil Ellis, Senior Property Manager for Opus West Management, Inc. The “instant-on” feature is really great say Mark Stromgren, Chief Engineer for Opus, but we mainly like the better light quality, with a 70% savings in energy, and 50% savings in maintenance, to pay for the conversion in less than 2 years!
After the installation took place, Opus said that the State of Arizona was as extremely happy as they were with the retrofit (the metal halide systems was less than two years old), and that the Magnaray parking garage lighting system should be used on “all future parking structures”.
Even with first floor mounting heights of up to 18′, the Maganray system provides “more” light for the area than metal halides of much higher wattage. Note minimal shadowing in photos.
The lighting system (housing) are adjustable so proper distribution and aiming can be accomplished for any mounting height – from 7’6″ to 20′. No other parking garage system offers that.
